Microsuction: how HearMed clears ear wax
Microsuction is a wax-removal method that uses gentle suction under magnification. The clinician watches the ear canal while a fine tip lifts wax away. HearMed uses microsuction as the default in clinic. We do not use syringing as the routine approach.

Why magnification matters
The outer ear canal is narrow and curved. Working by feel alone raises the chance of missing wax or irritating the skin. With a microscope or endoscope, the clinician sees the tip, the wax and the eardrum area throughout the procedure.
Microsuction versus syringing
Syringing and irrigation push water into the canal. That can be unsuitable after ear surgery, with a known perforation, with grommets, or when the skin is already inflamed. Microsuction does not flush water into the ear. Cotton buds and diggers are not a substitute; they often push wax deeper.
When microsuction helps
Impacted wax can muffle sound, create fullness or make tinnitus feel louder. Hearing aids may whistle or stop helping when the canal is blocked. Clearing wax first also matters before a hearing test so the audiogram is not skewed by a plug of cerumen.
What a visit feels like
We look first (otoscopy), then suction under view, then look again. Most people sit still for a short appointment. If wax is very hard, we may ask you to soften it briefly and return. You can usually travel home yourself.
