What happens at a hearing test?

About 45 to 60 minutes. Otoscopy first, then a hearing test in a quiet booth, including speech-in-noise when it helps. We talk through the audiogram in ordinary words. Adults do not need a GP letter.

How much are hearing aids?

Hearing aids start from fully covered basic PRSI models. The PRSI you have already paid can cover the full cost of both ears if you qualify. More advanced models from €350 per aid after the PRSI grant (€850 per aid before the grant). We give a written quote after your test.

What is the PRSI grant?

Treatment Benefit: up to €500 per ear, €1,000 for both ears, plus €100 towards repairs, once every four years. Bring your PPS number. HearMed is on the panel.

Do you do same-day wax removal?

Often yes. Ear wax removal is €60 in clinic. Home wax removal is €100. Call the clinic number on this page and we will tell you what the diary looks like today.

Do you do home visits?

Yes, nationwide. Ring 0818 058 058 if you cannot travel.

We see people aged 12 and over in clinic. Children under 12 go through HSE paediatric audiology. Adults do not need a GP referral for a free private hearing test. HSE audiology for medical card holders usually needs a GP letter and a waitlist.

Which hearing aids do you fit?

HearMed fits Oticon, Widex, Signia, Phonak, ReSound, Starkey, Bernafon and Unitron. Hearing aids start from fully covered basic PRSI models. More advanced models from €350 per aid after the PRSI grant (€850 per aid before the grant).

What is the warranty?

A four-year manufacturer warranty. Servicing in that period is free for paid aids. Loaners if yours go away for repair. Programming is free if you need it.

Clinical Assistant

Fiona McRedmond is a Clinical Assistant at HearMed with a strong background in reception roles within both school and hospital environments. Through this experience, she has developed excellent organisational and communication skills, along with a patient-centred approach to care. Fiona also previously worked as a Special Needs Assistant (SNA), further strengthening her ability to support and engage with people in a compassionate and understanding way. Known for her friendly and outgoing personality, she is always ready to assist patients and support her colleagues, helping to ensure that every patient feels welcome and well cared for.
