Hearing aid supports for Gardaí and prison officers
Some members of St Paul's Garda Medical Aid and of Prison Officers Medical Aid have hearing-related benefits through their own societies. Rules, caps and claim forms sit with those schemes, not with HearMed. Eligibility changes, so always confirm with your scheme before you rely on a figure.
When a scheme applies, HearMed can help with clinical paperwork and receipts. We do not claim to process every occupational claim, and we do not replace your scheme's own decision.

Start with a clear hearing result
Book a free HearMed hearing test (about 45 to 60 minutes, age 12+, no private GP referral). We explain the audiogram in plain language. If aids are appropriate, you get a written quote you can share with your scheme.
PRSI still matters
Many working and retired members also have PRSI Treatment Benefit: up to €500 per ear, €1,000 for both ears, once every four years, when you qualify. At HearMed that grant is taken off at the till when you qualify. Occupational scheme help, if any, is separate and must be confirmed with your society.
St Paul's Garda Medical Aid
If you are covered by St Paul's Garda Medical Aid, ask the society what hearing-aid benefit applies to your membership, how often you can claim, and which forms they need. Bring that guidance to clinic. We can supply clinical notes and invoices in the format many schemes ask for when cover applies.
Prison Officers Medical Aid
Prison Officers Medical Aid members should check current hearing benefits, limits and claim steps with the society directly. HearMed can support the clinical side and paperwork when your scheme confirms that a claim is in order. We cannot promise approval or speak for the society.
Tax relief and medical cards
You may still look at Revenue Med 1 relief at 20% on unreimbursed medical expenses; confirm with Revenue or an accountant. A medical-card HSE pathway needs GP referral and a waitlist; a HearMed private test does not.
